RE: Turn off the Fluoride

Dear Editor:

We agree with the SJMN’s endorsement (7/13/00) of the EPA’s new regulations to prevent “non-point” pollution. The new requirements for fertilizer and pesticide runoff from farms is long overdue. In the same issue the SJMN reported that the latest cancer research showed most cancers in the U.S. are caused by chemical pollutants. This makes controlling rogue pollutants even more imperative.

The new science is now in conflict with the 1950’s practice of water fluoridation, a practice the SJMN unfortunately endorses. The chemicals used in water fluoridation are primarily the hazardous waste from phosphate fertilizer manufacturing. This waste is contaminated with lead, arsenic, mercury and other heavy metals.

EPA Toxicologist, Dr. J. William Hirzy, called for a national moratorium on fluoridation in his testimony during a Congressional Hearing before the Subcommittee on Wildlife, Fisheries and Drinking Water held June 29th. His full testimony is available at our website, www.nofluoride,com .

The EPA can get a jump-start on reducing pollution in our water by requiring the fluoride spigots be turned OFF immediately.

Sincerely,
